December 28 Council meeting

The upcoming Council meeting is the last meeting of the year. The agenda does not list all topics that will be discussed, or all business that will be conducted. The next meeting will be 4 January 2010 - the re-organization meeting. Items not on the agenda that will be coming up on the 28th may have significant impact on items that will appear on the annual reorganization meeting.

WEBSITE UPDATES Again

Now that the 2009 elections are over (congratulations to John Alloway and Joe Brickley), I will begin updating this website regularly again.

You'll notice a change in the way I'm writing up Council meetings. Most of the information is still there, but I'm changing the way it's presented. Details about the meeting will be found below the agenda rather than imbedded with each item in the agenda, to reduce the time it takes to do an update (it has typically taken 5-15 hours for each meeting, depending on how much went on).

Most Resolutions and Ordinances will now download in MS Word format when the link is clicked. Some will still open in their own page, usually when the resolution or ordinance is scanned file.

This new way will be much less time consuming, meaning I'll have time to keep the reports more up-to-date.

WEBSITE UPDATES

Although I've made time to add upcoming Council meeting information to the website for each meeting, I haven't added much Council meeting information in the last couple of months. That's due to both personal reasons and, more recently, time I've been spending helping Council candidates with their campaigns for the election.

The election is just over two weeks away as I write this. As soon as that's complete I should have more time available, and over the next six weeks will add information on the Council meetings which have occurred since the end of May.

Thanks for your patience.

IT'S BUDGET TIME!

Like last year, you can go to the Clerk's office in Borough Hall for a copy of the budget, or look at it free on this website.

Go here to read my comments on the budget, and to find links to the budget itself.

If you look at sheet 2 of the budget (near the bottom), you'll see that May 8th at 7:30 pm at Borough Hall is listed as the time and place a budget hearing will take place. But an ad in the May 1 Retrospect says the hearing is June 8th. The Retrospect is correct. So if you're interested in attending the hearing, you might want to verify the correct date with the Clerk by calling 856-662-2474 X 103.

There is ANOTHER Bond Ordinance being introduced at the 27 April Council meeting - this one for $189,335. See the agenda and Ordinance 09-09 listed below it.  NOTE THAT THIS ORDINANCE DOES NOT DETAIL COMPLETE COSTS OF THESE PROJECTS. The borough engineer has spent a few thousand dollars on the bike trail designs, but that cost is not captured in the ordinance, and it WILL be a borough obligation.

Also, the 2009 budget will be introduced. It will include, of course, another local tax increase.

At the 23 February Council meeting, a "Cool Cities" tree planting initiative was discussed and adopted. See this Council meeting page for some details.

We have received the proposed planting list from the Cool Cities folks. Download the
Excel (R) spreadsheet here
to read it through.
There is no legend with the spreadsheet, but it seems simple enough to follow. I don't know what the red highlighting of some of the rows means, though. Feel free to e-mail me with any comments or questions you have about the list.

At the 23 March Council meeting (after the private session), Council members present voted 5-1 (Mr. Brunton dissenting) to notify NJ Norse, the company buying 606 W. Maple Av. (Wellwood Apartments), that the company had until April 30 2009 to obtain the performance bond required in their agreement with the borough (which was dated 18 November 2008). On 9 March, Council had imposed, via Resolution, a six month time limit.  As on 3 March, this topic, though known about before the Council meeting. was left off the agenda.
